Primary consideration is the space of the wall. It is important that there is an adequate amount of space of the wall for the curtains to beautifully flow. Insufficient amount of space of the wall will make the curtains the beautiful natural lights that come from outside. Letting the natural lights into the home will add a dramatic look to the atmosphere. Another consideration is the shape of your windows at home. Mostly, houses have different shapes of window. Some would go for windows that have unusual shape and size or a window that is round in shape.
Windows of these shapes and sizes are difficult for curtains to hang. You may use the usual curtains you have and pay no heed to the shape of the window. Aside from this, there are available rods on the market that matches you window. You can also create an illusion through hanging fabric made from lace so that the unusual size of the window is covered. With regards to size, curtains are not really required for smaller windows. Instead of curtains, intricate borders around the window will do the magic. It is easier to procure curtains for windows that are longer because most manufacturers create such type of curtains. Windows that are taller and very wide need side panels and fabric on each side over the wall.
To add to the luxurious look trims can be added to French pleat curtains such as contrasting buttons, tassels or braid. Goblet pleated curtains as the name suggests have tubular foam or metal fasteners which create a goblet effect at the same regular intervals as the French pleated curtains. These fastenings or foam tubes should be kept in place when the curtain is hanging, but removed for cleaning. Like French pleated curtains goblet pleated curtains create a very sophisticated heading and hang to the curtains and trims either buttons, tassels or braid can be added for that finishing touch. Tab headed curtains are hung from a pole by evenly spaced fabric tabs. The first and last tabs on each curtain are positioned at the edges of the curtain. The width and length of the tabs can vary according to the width of the curtains and the size of the pole from which they will hang. The tabs are made from the same fabric as the curtain and the pole will need to extend at least 30cms either side of window, due to width of tabs. The pole will also need to be fitted at least 15cms above the window, due to the length of tabs.
Next, the length of the curtain is one of the very important elements. If you opt for a country mood, shorter curtains that perfectly fit the window will be great. On the contrary, a formal look of the room will be achieved through using curtains that flow directly to the floor. Smaller windows will also look big through the magic of curtains such as some duck egg blue curtains. Finally, the colours of the curtain will either make or break the beauty of the room. It can beautify or make the room look so ugly and dull. You may choose from light coloured curtains to darker hues. It depends on what particular look you want to achieve for your home. A tranquil atmosphere is achieved through curtains of lighter hues. Curtains of darker hues will bring the focus of the room to your windows. If you have beautiful view outside, then go for curtains that have simple patterns or those made from sheer fabrics.
